Louisa Hassell's Autumn Season blog part 3 - Edinburgh

Scottish Ballet dancer Louisa Hassell's behind-the-scenes blog continues as the tour comes to Edinburgh. 18th October. Over the past few weeks I’ve been lucky enough to be able to join the education department in their workshops for this season. We’ve been to colleges in Glasgow and Dundee so far and have been teaching some company rep from Rubies, Workwithinwork and In Light and Shadow. We’ve been mainly concentrating on Forsythe’s Workwithinwork as it is so physically challenging and a good insight into how modern ballet is evolving. Louisa Hassell's Autumn tour blog - part 2, Glasgow

Scottish Ballet dancer Louisa Hassell writes about life on the road as the Autumn tour comes to Glasgow.                                                                                                                                                                                                   After a tiring 1st week in London there was no time for a rest as the company went straight into rehearsing for the Glasgow week of shows. I always really enjoy performing in Glasgow because it’s where Scottish Ballet is based, meaning that I can stay at home. David, who has achieved critical acclaim in the world of photography and is widely recognized for his hauntingly honest portraiture and innovative work in the fashion world, shot Scottish Ballet principal dancers Sophie Martin and Erik Cavallari at our new premises in the Tramway. It was a really succussful day and an enjoyable shoot. Sophie and Erik looked fantastic despite all of the...

Autumn tour blog by Louisa Hassell - Part 1: Sadler's Wells

Scottish Ballet dancer Louisa Hassell gives us a behind the scenes peek on the Autumn tour.   6th October 2009 The run up to this autumn season was pretty challenging. The Company had just finished rehearsing for and then performing at the Edinburgh International Festival, the final show was on the Saturday night then it was straight back in the studio the following Monday morning with the start of Balanchine’s Rubies. Teaching us was Patricia Neary, who worked with Balanchine himself and understands the tough demands of the choreography. There was only one week for Pat to teach and rehearse everyone to the high...
